This surely comes as a good news for Iowa lotteries, because, its sales all along the Minnesota border have god a boost. However, this doesn’t come as a result of the fact that people are suddenly more interested in Iowa Lottery tickets because of their great prizes – okay, it might, but that’s just half of the story. This comes as a result of the government shutting down Gopher State.
The shutdown of Minessota state offices began on the 1st of July, as a result of the Governor Mark Dayton’s and Minessota Legislature’s failure to reach an agreement on a new state budget. As a result, the sales of Minessota Lottery tickets have been stopped all throughout the site. Lottery winning numbers
“We have checked with locations in a few different communities that are along the major highways that run between Iowa and Minnesota, and stores there are seeing an increase in Iowa Lottery sales,” said Iowa Lottery Vice President Mary Neubauer.
Of course, that’s indeed good news for the Iowa border lotteries, but we should note that this shutdown, doesn’t only affect the rest of the people in Minessota – who can’t buy anymore lottery tickets if they’re not close to a border line – but also the Lottery budget and hence its employees.
Iowa Lottery Vice President Mary Neubauer said that the Jo Stop convenience store that’s along the Interstate Highway 35 near Northwood, and just south of Albert Lea, Minnesota, has lottery sales two to three times normal. Another example provided by Neubauer is the North Star Express, a convenience store in the Northwood area that has, according to reports, seen a 25% increase in lottery ticket sales. Lottery checker
Another good example is Casey’s General store in Estherville, that reported a 30% increase in lotto sales and instant-scratch since the Minnesota shutdown. In a similar fashion, a Kum &Go convenience store located in Spirit Lake reported about 25% increase as well. National lottery
It’s needless to say that in times like these, it’s inevitable for some to lose money – aka Minnesota – and for some to make money – aka Iowa. However, the question is, what will the Minnesota residents that are dead in the center of the state will do to satisfy their lottery winning lust?
