MORE ON LOUISIANA’S INTRODUCTION OF MEGA MILLIONS
September 2, 2011

As the news that Louisiana will introduce Mega Millions next year, people are going head over heels to figure out what this would mean for both the lottery and the players. The move will be done because Powerball, the only multi state game currently offered by the Louisiana State Lottery, will soon change and its price will double to $2. Lottery numbers

As far as predictions go, lottery experts claim Mega Millions will bring an additional $8.5 million in revenue while its operating costs should not exceed $4.9 million. Last Friday, Lottery officials held a public hearing in Baton Rouge to discuss the move. A comprehensive report should reach the desks of the Legislature this fall, and the move should be done right before the turn of the year. Lottery checker

At the moment, Kimberly Hudson, the president of the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, said a large part of the feedback came from lottery players and retailers located near the state borders. That’s because many lottery players buy Mega Millions lottery tickets from the neighboring states. Lottery winning numbers

“We know that the players are interested in having the opportunity to purchase Mega Millions, and we get that kind of feedback from our sales reps and from our sales partners,” Kimberly Hudson stated.

Mega Millions would be added in quite an interesting period as lottery big shots across the United States are meeting to discuss a new multi state game which might have an even greater jackpot potential.

“That’s kind of the draw for players,” Hudson said, adding that crafting the rules for a national game would require “a delicate balance.”

In Arkansas, Mega Millions was introduced last year, as soon as the lottery could sell it. Julie Baldridge, director of public and legislative affairs with the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, said the two multi state games complete each other, because lottery players will usually play the one with the bigger jackpot. So when a jackpot is low, the other one is usually pretty high and it keeps things going.

“Two good jackpots, and we’re getting two good sets of sales,” Baldridge stated. “It’s the high jackpot that dictates the play. It’ll draw people who seldom play the lottery.”
