The lottery tickets sales for the Nebraska State Lottery have increased more than ever before. The Lotto and Scratch tickets have been in high demand during the last fiscal year, and a new lottery record was set. Preliminary figures for lottery ticket sales reveal that the lottery sold for about $131.7 million during the 2010-11 fiscal year. That’s a 1.3 percent increase over the 2009-10 fiscal year. But above that, the figure represents the highest revenue in a fiscal year recorded since the Nebraska State Lottery was founded in 1993. Sales have been increasing continuously for over 8 years. Jim Haynes, Director of the Nebraska State Lottery, said the lottery has continuously provided fun and excitement for its players since September, 1993. The Nebraska State Lottery is one of the smallest of its kind in the United States. It has just 22 employees who work in downtown Lincoln. Mega lottery
“We’re very proud of the sales estimates for the recent fiscal year,” Jim Haynes stated. “For a comparatively small organization like the Nebraska Lottery to increase sales for eight years in a row is a testament to the high level of innovation and efficiency we’ve been able to achieve.”
The State Lottery uses a lot of contractors for its advertising, supply systems and other services. Just last month, the Lottery signed a contract with the GTECH Corporation for a new terminal system, which experts predict will generate a lot more revenue for the organization. Lotteries
“The system conversion to GTECH was highly successful. We installed new equipment at over 1,150 retailers this summer, and the response from both retailers and players has been overwhelmingly positive,” Jim Haynes added. “The new system gives us many options for future products that we think will resonate with our players, which will in turn allow us to continue to support our beneficiary funds.”
The Nebraska State Lottery uses its revenue to help education, provide assistance for compulsive gamblers, fund the Nebraska State Fair and help the environment. The lottery raised funding of over $413 million for the causes it helps.
“Our mission as a lottery is to generate funds for good causes across Nebraska. When we increase sales, the entire state reaps the rewards,” Haynes concluded.
