If winning the lottery could ever be kept a secret, we know that in this case, this has been the worst kept secret in Clark. If your ask around, now everyone in town that Deana Scherb, Clark Police Captain Al Scherb’s wife, is the lucky winner of $1 million on a New Jersey Lottery. And the scratch-off ticket was bought at the Exxon on Westfield Avenue. So much for a secret!
All this is already news in town even though the Scherbs have not made any comments public and have even declined from giving any interviews and lottery fanfare. All that is known, according to other sources, is that Scherb will continue to serve as captain of the Police Department despite this exciting tourn of events in his wife’s life Scherb, who currently serves as officer-in-charge since Chief Denis Connell retire, will be -according to Mayor Bonaccorso- most likely be made Chief sometime in the future.
It is known, by Scherb conversations with a few people, that his wife purchased the scratch-off ticket on Wednesday of last week.
According to Judy Drucker, the public relations manager for the NJ Lottery, the Scherb’s scratch-off ticket belonged to the NJ Lottery’s “$100 Million Dollar Spectacular” game and it was purchased at the Clark Exxon at 226 Westfield Avenue.
According to the NJ Lottery website, only 16 out of the 13.5 million tickets printed of this specific scratch-off hold the $1 million grand prize and each of those scratch-offs tickets costs $10. Lottery checker
Andy Singh, manager of the Westfield Avenue Exxon, is thrilled that his store is the one that sold such a lucky ticket as this hadn’t ever happened before.
“This is the first big winner we sold here,” Singh said Friday. “We do get a percentage, but I’m not sure how much. We have to figure that out.” It is known that the percentage that the stores get from selling winning tickets varies from one state to another.
Singh says he first found out about the win from the Capt. Scherb himself, who came into the store and relayed the news to him before heading to Trenton to cash-in the ticket. Singh says that representatives from the lottery will be sending him a sign to commemorate the sale. Lottery winning numbers
On this regard, Singh says the store sells between 20 and 30 of the “$100 Million Dollar Spectacular” scratch-off tickets per day.
“That’s our No. 1, top-selling ticket,” Singh said. “Hopefully we sell a new winner again. It’s a good start for this year.”
And so, will it be a good start for any other winner that could buy a winning ticket from this store.
Let’s see if the rest of the week brings us more information on these lucky winners and their plans or changes for their future. As it is true for everyone who has ever being thru the same situation, winning the lottery will change your life forever.
Congratulations to the Scherbs!
