SPUR OF THE MOMENT SCRATCHER
October 20, 2011

Many husbands do their wives the favor of driving them around so that they can run their errands, and they are indeed very kind.  But what do they actually do with all that time while waiting? Robert Dibble of Waterford, Saratoga County was looking for a way to pass the time while his wife, Kathy, was doing the couple’s grocery shopping on September 10. US lottery

So, after not playing the lottery for almost nine years he  decided to purchase three Win $1,000 a Week For Life scratch-off tickets. “I used to play the ticket quite often but it’s been years since I bought one,” explained Dibble. “I bought three for old time’s sake and wasn’t exactly sure what I had won right away.” Dibble won by scratched off three ‘LIFE’ symbols on one of his tickets, this earned him a guaranteed minimum jackpot prize of $1,000,000. Dibble simply could not believe it  and would simply stare at the ticket, not knowing if it was true or not, if the win was real or just a fragment of his imagination.  “When my wife came back from buying the groceries, I couldn’t explain to her what we had just won. I was literally speechless!” said the 71- year-old General Electric retiree

Dibble claimed his $1,000,000 prize on September 27 at the Lottery’s Customer Service Center in Schenectady. He will receive a minimum of 19 annual payments of $52,000 (net $34,336) each and a 20th payment of $12,000 (net $7,924) to realize his $1,000,000 minimum prize. After that, Dibble will continue to receive an annual net check totaling $34,336 for life.

With this unexpected sum, what he plans to do is simply to enjoy life and help his family members.  Dibble, who has two grandchildren also said that he had always wanted to travel and that Italy has always been a destination that has attracted his attention.  So most probably we will be able to check this destination off from his list of to-do-things after winning the lottery.
